Switzerland-based power and automation technology group ABB has officially opened its Regional Robotics Packaging Application Hub in Singapore.

ABB Opens Regional Robotics Packaging Application Hub in Singapore

The company has designed the new 600m2 hub to provide engineering solutions to industrial manufacturing processes in the Asia market.

ABB's packaging hub will be used to develop robotics manufacturing solutions in hardware and software.

The solutions can be used in industries such as food and beverage, pharmaceutical, consumer electronics, and solar photovoltaics.

The new workshop, which is an extension to the company's existing Robotics Application Center, comprises demo units for picking, packing and palletizing processes.

End users and channel partners can use the facility to run trials with actual products. Prior to delivery they can also assemble robotics systems and conduct factory acceptance tests.

In addition, the hub will provide live learning and collaborative environment through research and problem-solving from real industrial cases.

The company intends to develop competent engineering talents at the new hub through training industry partners and educational institutions.

ABB Singapore head Haider Rashid said, "These are exciting times where robotics automation is revolutionizing the face of manufacturing."

Singapore Economic Development Board assistant managing director Lim Kok Kiang said ABB's Regional Robotics Packaging Application Hub will be a major boost for the country's advanced manufacturing ambitions.

"Singapore is embarking on the Future of Manufacturing initiative to position ourselves as the leading advanced manufacturing hub in the region," Kiang added.

"As part of the initiative, we are encouraging the manufacturing sector to co-create and implement future manufacturing solutions in Singapore, leveraging technologies such as advanced robotics and automation, additive manufacturing and ICT solutions."
